Rejuvenating The Prairie With Fire

Open space managers turn to an ancient solution to maintaining and improving prairie restorations across the region. Every year in the spring and fall a controlled burn is a way to clear away unwanted vegetation. At this time of year, the fire clears the slate to give new growth a jump start with increased access to sunlight and a boost of nutrients in the soil. College of DuPage Prairie Manager Remic Ensweiler conducts prescription burns in the open spaces at the Glen Ellyn based community college.
