Val's Halla Records

Remembering Val Camilletti

When First Light host Brian O'Keefe was planning to do a story for ‘Record Store Day’ this year, he wanted to talk with a variety of independent record store owners. Several people said, “You’ve got to talk to Val.” Val Camilletti owned ‘Val’s Halla’ in Oak Park. Val died this week, just days before the store’s planned anniversary celebration. The 'Valapalooza' continues Sunday afternoon at Val's Halla Records on Harrison St. in Oak Park. When Brian met Val in the spring of this year Val talked about her more than 50 years in the music business

Planning For The 10th Annual Record Store Day

If there’s a record store in your community, you can expect there will be big crowds at it next Saturday. In fact, there may be people lined up in the early morning hours waiting for the doors to open for the start of the 10th annual Record Store Day. In 2007, a group of independent record store owners and employees hatched the idea of a special day to celebrate the special culture associated with record stores and to role they play in so many lives. First Light host Brian O'Keefe has this story
