Horror Meets History In Radium Girls

Typically when horror and non-fiction meet on the bookshelf…the subject is a notorious serial killer, or the biography of a cinematic legend like Boris Karloff. The Chicago Public Library called Kate Moore’s ‘Radium Girls’ the 2017 Book of the Year. While it tells the story of early 20th century workers, make no mistake, it is a horror story. One week before the Super Bowl, eagles were getting special attention across north-central Illinois. Several conservation groups gathered at Starved Rock State Park last weekend for a celebration of bald eagles. Increasingly, you don’t have to go to either Illinois River or Mississippi River communities to see the national symbol. First Light host Brian O'Keefe joined the Naperville based Conservation Foundation for a hike through a natural area it owns in Ottawa.
