Growing up in Springfield, African American violinist Clayton Penrose-Whitmore was one of few people of color around him playing classical music. He’s gone on to have a successful career in music, performing around the world. In central Illinois recently, Penrose-Whitmore played music of the man known as the Black Mozart.
